Whoopi Goldberg is addressing speculation head-on after her name appeared in documents tied to Jeffrey Epstein.
During Tuesday’s (February 17) episode of The View, Goldberg asked producers to display the reference on screen “in the name of transparency,” telling viewers plainly, “my name is in the files.”
The document in question is an email in which a redacted individual appears to ask Epstein about helping secure a private plane for Goldberg to travel to Monaco for an event connected to Julian Lennon’s White Feather Foundation. Reading directly from the email, Goldberg said: “Whoopi needs a plane to get to Monaco… Julian Lennon’s charity is paying for it. They don’t want to charter so they’re looking for private owners. Here’s the info… Do you want to offer your G2?”
According to the exchange shown on air, Epstein declined the request.
Goldberg pushed back strongly against online claims suggesting her name’s inclusion implies a deeper connection.
“I wasn’t his girlfriend. I wasn’t his friend,” she said, visibly frustrated. “I was not only too old, but it was at a time where this is just not…. You used to have to have facts before you said stuff.”
Her comments come after social media users circulated screenshots of the document, with some falsely alleging she had direct ties to Epstein. Others speculated she was the redacted sender in the email — a claim not supported by the document itself.
A search of the Justice Department’s public database shows multiple references to Goldberg’s name across various files. However, many of those entries appear in unrelated materials, including press releases, resumes, marketing documents and media references — not evidence of a personal relationship.
Goldberg’s co-hosts also weighed in. Sunny Hostin noted that the email exchange appeared to show Epstein declined the request. Joy Behar questioned whether “anyone can be on this list,” highlighting how names can surface in broad document releases.
Sara Haines added context, saying that famous names can appear in records for a range of reasons, including news articles, third-party emails and professional overlaps. “A lot of the reasons your name can be mentioned are news articles, third-party emails, contacts,” Haines said. “Again, wealthy famous people often cross in professional and social circles, so that’s not the surprising part.”
Goldberg also addressed another detail: she has long spoken publicly about her fear of flying. “You know what I would have to do to get on the plane?” she said, prompting Haines to joke, “She doesn’t fly. She’s a bus babe!”
When Behar additionally noted that President Donald Trump is featured in the files “38,000 times," Goldberg said she "can’t speak" to Trump’s name also appearing in the files. “I’m speaking about me because I’m getting dragged,” she said.
